The Punxsy girls cross country team hosted Dubois Central Catholic and Brockway. The lady chucks were able to come away with two wins on the night bringing their season record to 9-5, scoring a 25-32 victory over Brockway and a 22-39 victory over DCC.
“The girls have been racing a lot over the past three weeks. We are now gearing up for the District 9 meet, so we are treating our dual meets a little differently and trying to incorporate some race specific training in order to be fully prepared to race our best come the end of the month.”
Isabel Hackenberry was Punxsy’s first finisher placing first overall in a new personal best of 21:22. “Isabel was a bit more conservative through her first two miles. From there she raced to the lead and controlled the final mile of the race rather nicely.”
Punxsy’s second runner was Jenna Barnoff, who finished 4th overall in a seasonal best time of 23:09. “Jenna ran rather comfortably to a solid time and clocked her best performance on our home course.”
Finishing third for Punxsy was Gabby Franklin in 8th place overall with a time of 23:50. “Gabby was a little off today, but she still finished with a good effort.”
Shortly following Franklin was Punxsy’s fourth finisher, Hayley Dilts, placing 9th overall in a time of 24:10. “Hayley ran quite evenly actually finishing faster on the second half of her race.”
Punxsy’s 5th runner, Madison Stonbraker, raced to 10th place overall in a time of 24:30. “Madison raced quite nicely for what we were trying to accomplish today.”
Rounding out the next two Punxsy spots were Jaci Mennetti in 30:31 and Sophia Lambiotte in 31:40, finishing 13th and 14th respectively. “Jaci ran a personal best time by 60 seconds and Sophia pushed her way through another consistent race.”
The Lady Chucks return to action next Tuesday when they host Brookville for their final dual meet of the season on Senior Night. “We will recognize Jenna, and hopefully send her off with a fine team performance.”
