The Punxsy girls cross country team hosted Dubois, Kane and Hollidaysburg in its first home meet of the season. The girls came away with one win against Kane by a score of 27-28. The girls fell to a very formidable Dubois team by a score of 16-39, while they lost a real close one to Hollidaysburg by a score of 26-29. “Despite the close lose to Hollidaysburg and lose to Dubois many of the Punxsy girls came away with seasonal best performances from the meet.”
“The girls went out a little faster than we had planned but for the most part they responded rather well in the second half of the race. With each race these girls become more savvy runners and for such a young crew I am really impressed.”
The first Punxsy finisher placing 8th overall in a time of 21:54 was Isabel Hackenberry. “Isabel has been having a great season so far. Each meet she just keeps getting better. She ran another personal best today dropping into 21 minutes for the first time in her career.”
Punxsy’s next finisher placing 15th overall in a time of 23:30 was Gabby Franklin. “Gabby set another personal best and really looked aggressive today. She really helped out the team by getting ahead of Kane’s third runner.”
Next to come across the line for Punxsy was Hayley Dilts finishing 18th overall in a time of 23:48. “Hayley looked really focused out there today. She has been right around 24 minutes for a while now, it was nice to see her achieve a personal best today.”
Right behind Dilts was Jenna Barnoff finishing in 19th overall in a time of 24:03. “Jenna had some cramping issues today that left her finishing back from where she would be normally, but she is dedicated to her team and did what she could to help. She is a veteran that definitely will put this race behind her and look to get back to work.”
Punxsy’s fifth runner finishing 22nd overall in a time of 24:23 was Madison Stonbraker. “Madison had an excellent race today. Even feeling a little sore from Saturday she still managed a personal best. With a bit fresher legs I am confident she will get herself closer to dropping her time under 24 minutes.”
Punxsy’s next two runners finished within a short distance of each other. Jaci finished 36th overall in a time of 32:14. “Jaci improved her personal best by 90 seconds. She continues to get stronger and a bit more aggressive each meet.”
Sophia finished 38th overall in a time of 32:42. “Sophia really impressed me today, I felt like she ran competitively against the group of girls around her. She is definitely heading in the right direction towards improving her time.”
“Overall I was very pleased with everyone’s performances. It was nice to see how competitive we were with Kane and Hollidaysburg. Each week I am seeing continued improvements in these girls racing abilities. With another month of training I am real excited to see what these girls can do.”
Punxsy travels Saturday to the Grove City Invitational.
