The Punxsy girls cross country team traveled to Kane for a rematch against the lady wolves. Kane’s team led by Freshman phenom Chelsey Hunt led the charge winning in a time of 20:04 but Punxsy’s depth proved too much as the girls were able to yet again hold off the lady wolves 28-29.
“I was hoping for the girls to get an opportunity to run by feel more today, since we are gearing up for the Ridgway Invitational on Saturday. I feel like we came and did more than I expected for today. I really want these girls to be feeling their best for Saturday when we will see all of the district 9 teams on the district course they will race at the end of the month.”
Isabel Hackenberry was Punxsy’s first finisher placing second overall in a new personal best of 21:28. “Isabel raced nicely through her first two miles. She is racing near perfect. I look forward to seeing her race the district competition on Saturday at Ridgway.”
Punxsy’s second runner was Jenna Barnoff, who finished 5th overall in a seasonal best time of 23:11. “Jenna is progressing quite nicely and finished the race with a strong third mile.”
Finishing third for Punxsy was Gabby Franklin in 6th overall with a time of 24:10. “Gabby stayed quite consistent to her previous performances.”
Shortly following Franklin was Punxsy’s fourth finisher, Hayley Dilts, placing 7th overall in a time of 24:12. “Hayley does a nice job at pushing the later part of her race.”
Punxsy’s 5th runner, Madison Stonbraker, raced to 8th overall in a time of 24:49. “Madison bounced back nicely with another consistent time after having the weekend off.”
“Jenna, Gabby, Hayley and Madison have been gradually making nice progress. This weekend will be a test to see how much they can close up the gap to Isabel. The potential for these girls is definitely there.”
Rounding out the next two Punxsy spots were Jaci Mennetti in 32:05 and Sophia Lambiotte in 32:23, finishing 10th and 11th respectively. “Jaci and Sophia are really working hard to get their times down and I was pleased with their efforts today. It was extremely helpful to the team score that these two were able to place ahead of Kane’s fifth runner.”
Punxsy’s next competition is on Saturday at the Ridgway Invitational. “We want to really be at our best because this will really give us an idea as to where we rank against the rest of the district with less than a month to go until the district meet.”
